September 2023 - Women's London - In the Footsteps of Great Lives

Women’s London by London guide, author and natterer Rachel, was inspired by her walking tours originally devised for The Women’s Library. Transforming the spoken words into writing, she celebrates the impact women have had on London's society, heritage and streetscape. From scientists and suffragettes, reformers and royals, authors and artists, sit back and discover some of her favourite London ladies while enjoying a virtual tour of London too!

Engaging, knowledgeable and entertaining Rachel Kolsky is a popular social historian, prize-winning London Blue Badge Tourist Guide and author. Focussing on the 'human stories behind the buildings' Rachel's talks are known to be fun and informative filled with anecdotes past and present. From off-the-beaten track London and famous personalities to cinemas and shopping, memories of all aspects of London's rich and varied social history come flooding back.

Before embarking on her career as Guide and Lecturer Rachel, a qualified librarian, worked as an information professional in the financial services industry for over 25 years being recognised at industry level with the Information Professional of the Year award in 2006. Her professional organisation, SLA, awarded her the Membership Achievement Award in 2008.

When not working or guiding she supports her local independent cinema, The Phoenix, East Finchley, where she was a Trustee for over 20 years. Rachel has published five books, Jewish London (2012), Whitechapel in 50 Buildings (2016), Secret Whitechapel (2017), Women’s London (2018) and Whitechapel Doors (2019) and she is thrilled to have been a guest lecturer on cruises since 2009.

Special Offer: Rachel will be selling copies of her book at the very reduced price of £10.00 per copy (rrp £14.99 ie £15.00) so it is a mega discount. Please bring a crisp tenner (or two!) with you but she also has a White Square for contactless purchases.
