Sara Rankin is Professor of Leukocyte and Stem Cell Biology in the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London. She originally trained as a pharmacologist and her current research, originally funded by a WellcomeTrust Investigator award, focuses on developing drugs that increase the rate and extent of bone formation after injury.
Sara is dyslexic and dyspraxic and in this talk she will discuss how she considers her neurodiversity to be her secret superpower, that has led her to success as a scientist and enabled her to develop innovative public engagement projects with artists and crafts people. In 2016 she established 2eMPowerUK to develop and deliver bespoke science workshops for neurodiverse teenagers. As a result, she is now working with EY, Microsoft, the Royal College of Art and GCHQ - to name but a few of her extensive network of collaborators. In addition, she is leading transformative changes in the way science is taught at Imperial making it accessible to students with specific learning differences.
